APPLICATIONS

Nigrosine is a dark black pigment (or dye), obtained primarily from aniline. There are three kinds: water-, alcohol- (spirit-), or oil- soluble.

Nigrosine is used in dying of leather, wood and textiles. It is used in the manufacture of ink, shoe polish cream, carbon paper and toners.. It is also used in compounding resins include phenolic resins, styrenics, polyamides and  urea resins. Nigrosin is acidic and used for cell staining. It has a special affinity for ganglion cells. Picronigrosin is a solution of nigrosin and picric acid in alcohol for staining use. Other applications are in cosmetics, indicators  and colour smoke.
